The graduating class of 1970 held their 45th Year Reunion recently at the Clovelly Hotel and pleasingly nearly 50 Old Boys attended.
This cohort have reunited every five years and numbers have always been very healthy. School Captain from 1970 Joshua Ehrlich convened a hard working committee of Jeremy Glass, Glenn Gilsenan, Phil Flambas and Michael Fischer. The committee has met regularly since about April and, like all reunion organisers, employed every possible avenue to locate the students who attended High from 1965-1970.
Sadly some boys remain unfindable and in a future newsletter we will publish those names in the hope of locating them for our big 50th Year Reunion in 2020.
The Class of 1970 did not produce any Wallabies or Rhodes Scholars but they did have a few boys who played a handful of first grade Rugby League matches.
We also produced Olympic rower Ian Luxford who competed in the Montreal Games in 1976.
Perhaps the greatest fame was achieved by Paul Radcliffe and Dave King who were members of the band King Fox back in the late 60s. Their single Unforgotten Dreams soared to the top of the charts while the boys were still at school. A very youthful looking David King attended the reunion and retold stories of the band.
So while none of us cured cancer or became Prime Minister , the cohort remain tight after 45 years out of school. Despite the fact that then Headmaster M.R. Callaghan cancelled our farewell lunch because we raided the girls’ school with eggs and flour, we survived!
The reunion was a wonderful night and many stories were retold over a few beers and snacks.
Thank you to all the boys who attended and a special thank you to the organising team.
See you all in 2020!.
