New 1st VIII coach appointed
Adrian Henning
Coach – 1st VIII, Sydney Boys’ High School
Adrian Henning’s rowing history began at Caulfield Grammar School, Melbourne, where he served as boat captain and rowed in the stoke seat of the 1st VII during 1970 and 1971 and then club rowed with Banks Rowing Club Melbourne where he gained State selection.
His coaching career began in Brisbane at Somerville House in 1992 where he coached school, novice, junior and senior rowers.

During an eight-year period while living in Christchurch New Zealand, Adrian was a co-developer of the adaptive rowing pilot program which was ultimately adopted by Rowing New Zealand as the country’s blueprint for all clubs. He went on to coach high performance adaptive rowers and was appointed to the 2009 NZ National and Paralympic coaching team. One of Adrian’s athletes achieved 4th at the World Cup in Munich and 5th at the World Championships in Poznan and the following year Bronze medal at the World Championships in NZ.
In NZ, Adrian served as club captain at Union Rowing Club where he also coached junior and master crews. He was known as a hard worker and was well respected by both his peers and the crews he coached.
In addition to his adaptive and club coaching, Adrian was the senior coach for the 1st VIII at Christ’s College, Christchurch, one of the leading rowing schools in NZ. Under Adrian’s tutelage, his crews achieved gold and other medals at the provincial and national level.
Adrian is still an active masters rower where time permits and holds Rowing Australia and FISA International accreditation.
