SBHS Equal First in First and Second Grade GPS Basketball
The 2014/2015 GPS Basketball season has been a stellar one for Sydney Boys High School, coming equal First in both the First and Second Grade competitions.
Under the watchful eyes of coaches Ben Hayman and Tom Neal the strength of the school’s two teams has taken them to the top of a highly competitive ladder.
Here is a brief match report from Ben:
This is the first time in the history of the school that SBHS have reached the top two spots in the GPS competition.
Both these sides showed character and maturity beyond their years. They showed poise in the biggest moments under pressure and won several games by the smallest of margins against the odds – every players’ contribution was as valuable as the next.
In the lead up to the finals the teams were resilient and hardworking, particularly in light of some significant injuries.
Bruce Gordon (Manager), Andrija Dumovic (Old Boy), Tim Purcell (coach) and Tom Neal helped in the skill development of the players so that the players could perform at a high level.
The final game for the Firsts was one of the best games I have had the pleasure of being a part of during my time at Sydney Boys.
Basketball is a highly intelligent team sport which teaches invaluable educational life lessons as per AAGPS guidelines. All the sports at SBHS are performing well under the guidance of Sportsmaster Mr Pavone and Dr Jaggar.
