It was an exciting finish to the year when we saw the collective spirit and generosity of Old Boys around the world support the purchase of a piece of memorabilia.
The cabinet, dated post 1928 according to the school crest, was up for auction just two weeks before Christmas. Former SHSOBU president, Joseph Waugh, alerted the council and without any deliberation the council decided to purchase the cabinet and present it to the school.
President of the SHSOBU, Paul Almond, said the memorabilia was too important and intriguing to be in private hands and should be given back to the school as a gift from the Old Boys.
An email to all old boys asking for donations of $100 or more was sent out and within a day the purchase price and costs associated with moving the cabinet to the school were raised. Everyone who donated $100 will have their name inscribed on a plaque and be invited to attend the presentation ceremony.
Thank you Old Boys! An amazing effort.
