The Old Boys Union (OBU) wishes its sincere congratulations to the graduating cohort of 2020 in this watershed year.

As High boys round the turn of their HSC examinations, seemingly overcoming the greatest challenge in their lives so far, it is time to turn their eyes to the second great hurdle – university. University can be a daunting prospect for a first-year student, as the wealth of opportunities and choices threatens to swamp them. But much like how high school and the HSC are viewed in the prospects for university, so is university for the start of their careers.

It is important to well prepare oneself to navigate these deep waters, which is why the OBU is hosting a webinar fronted by a panel of highly-accomplished guest speakers who have recently or about to graduate from university. Some of their highlights include being featured on the front page of the Australian Financial Review, interning at Microsoft’s international headquarters in Redmond (USA), being named the Australian Student Leader of the Year, to going on exchange to the renowned Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania.

The OBU strongly urges the Class of 2020, but also other current High cohorts and parents to attend this webinar to gain perspectives in what to realistically expect at university, how to best prepare, to where the opportunities lie and how to take advantage of them. With a panel with experience that spans the corporate sectors of banking, law, technology, trading, accounting, funds management to government, as well as experiences across all aspects of university life from exchange, societies, case competitions, scholarships etc. the attendees will be able gain from these Old Boys imparting their opinions and experiences, as well as being able to ask live questions.

In the extremely competitive graduate job market, getting an informational head start to learn where the first-year internships/cadetships/traineeships are, how to allocate subject and major selections to maximise WAM (academic grades), to an overview of what companies search for in their entry-level hires, may prove to be the edge that High boys can take advantage of. Moreover the panel will endeavour to cover how to format a resume for professional consumption as well as providing tips to the boys on how to ace their interviews.

Therefore, the OBU hopes that the boys will attend this webinar to best prepare them for the next chapter of their lives.
