SHOBs is back

The Sydney High Old Boys’ Rugby Club was revived on Wednesday night, 6 April 2011, when 16 Old Boys met for the first time as a team to face last year’s premiers, Eastern Suburbs, in the Under 85 kg Competition in the NSW Suburban Rugby Union. The Old Boys were joined by the School’s current sports master, Mark Pavone, who, before coming to Sydney, played with the North Brisbane Rugby Club in Queensland.

The first round disappointment led to a spectacular turn-around on 13 April, when the High Old Boys trounced UNSW 82-0, with tries to Andrew Johnston (3), Robert Chen (1), Nelson Ridges (1), Marcus Halliday (2), Matt Ling (1), George Barris (1), James Ip (1), Charles Kingston (3), and Michael Ambrose (1) and six conversions to George Barris.

The under 85 kg Competition is held on Wednesday nights throughout the season. There are plenty more opportunities to display the old High spirit in the forthcoming matches against Chatswood, Dee Why, Eastern Suburbs, Forest, Hunters Hill and Lindfield.
