Mark your calendars for a fun-filled weekend on Friday 2nd October and Saturday 3rd October this year, which conveniently falls on the NSW Labour Day long weekend. This timing has worked well in previous years, especially for those traveling from the country and making a long weekend of it.
For those not familiar with the GPS Gold Challenge, it is an event held every 1-2 years for GPS Old Boys who have just turned 50 or are about to do so. Old Boys from all of the schools compete against one another in a number of activities followed by a large group dinner at the end. It’s a great weekend to reconnect with your classmates and those from the other schools and is ultimately more about the social aspect than the competition!
The event will be held at St Joseph’s College, and there is a fantastic line-up of activities planned for everyone. On Friday, things will kick off with rowing at Leichhardt, shooting at Kings, and golf at either Strathfield, Oatlands, or Ryde–Parramatta (venue to be finalised). Saturday promises to be action-packed with indoor cricket, basketball, tennis, touch football, athletics, swimming, and soccer all at Joeys. To wrap up the event there will be a grand dinner in the evening, providing a perfect opportunity to catch up and reminisce with old friends.
More details will follow as venues and timings are locked in, but the organisers wanted to give you a heads-up so you can start planning. If you would like to join the High teams, and to continue to receive updates about this event, please email communications@shsobu.org.au and we will connect you with the High team organisers led by Luke Mann and Evan Jones.
