High (as most Old Boys call the School) is the most unique public school in Australia, providing great educational, sporting and co curricular opportunities to thousands of student for almost 140 years. Many still remain extremely close friends with their mates who they attended school with.
For these reasons and many more, many of us wouldn’t be the people we are today without the environment that High created.
The SHSOBU represents the interests of graduates from the oldest selective boys school in Australia. Importantly it supports the Sydney Boys High School through a broad array of activities including prizes and awards, fundraising events and advocacy for the school. The SHSOBU council works closely with the Sydney Boys High School Foundation, the Parents and Citizens Association and the Sydney Boys High School Council to ensure our goals and values are aligned and is a member of the GPS Old Boys’ Unions’ Council.
Some cool facts about High and SHSOBU:
The SHSOBU is the primary source of communication and information for old boys regarding reunions, sporting events, achievements and awards. Self-funded, it relies on life memberships of our old boys to support our activities (in addition to many, many hours of volunteer support). With the main source of income being a one-off life membership the ability of the SHSOBU to support High remains limited.
The Council has a vision that the SHSOBU become self-sustaining outside of life-memberships with the ability to support the school and out alumni with an even broader array of activities.
We are seeking support form Old Boys to attain this vision in 4 main ways:
