The best way to describe the SHS Rowers Reunion 2022 would be to say it was an outstanding success! Gathered at the Abbotsford Boatsheds were SHS rowers from a number eras including 1950 up to 1989.
The meal was suitable, the speeches were first class, & we stood for a Minute's Silence for those of our former SHS rower mates who had passed. Not to mention the lone Piper on the balcony - playing the ‘Scottish lament’ at that time.
We enjoyed an address from Binh Johnsun, President of the SHS Rowing Committee, who told us what is happening ahead in 2022 & 2023 - nearly a century later from when High rowing began - thank you Binh. We also had a “round the table history lesson” from every person present who told us their name, year they rowed, what crew & how they went in racing terms. Thanks to Ian Stewart (1959) & Richard Luxford (1978) for their video presentations of SHS rowing history - a selection of which can be found in the gallery.
All in all it was a wonderful gathering of former SHS rowers, at the exact location where they rowed, slept, rowed & lived for many months of their school years!
Sincere thanks to the SHS Rowing Committee & the School Rowing Master for allowing us to return & savour the times we spent as rowers, in our special eras at the Sydney High School Rowing Shed.
